Prince Edward Island may be the smallest Canadian province, but it is a popular destination for tourists and photographers alike. If you are planning a visit to PEI you probably want to know the locations that are best for photography. On this page we’ll point out some of the highlights of Prince Edward Island. Most of them are on the coast, and with the beautiful beaches and cliffs that is probably where you will want to spend most of your time.

Prince Edward Island National Park lies along the north shore of the island on the Gulf of St. Lawrence. It is a long, narrow park that stretches for about 60 km along the coast. The park protects beaches, sand dunes, saltmarshes, and wetlands. It is also an important habitat for birds. Visitors of Prince Edward Island National Park are rewarded with the opportunity to photograph the beautiful red, sandy beaches.
Greenwich became part of Prince Edward Island National Park in 1998. It is located east of the main body of the park, and next to St. Peters Bay. This area includes beautiful sand dunes and wetlands. There are three hiking trails for easily exploring and photographing this area.
Cavendish, also on the north shore, features a beautiful, rugged beach. The beach is also a part of Prince Edward Island National Park. It is well known for its signature red sandstone cliffs. This area is easily accessible and offers some outstanding scenery.
The town of Covehead and Covehead Bay are on the north shore. The Covehead Harbour Lighthouse is actually within Prince Edward Island National Park. The picturesque lighthouse is easy to access and photograph, although you will need a park pass.
Just a few kilometers from Cavendish, North Rustico has a beautiful harbor and a historic lighthouse. This area is easy to access if you are near the national park.
New London is a short drive west of Cavendish. The lighthouse is situated along the northern shore, just north of Fish River. Cape Road leads to the lighthouse.
Cape Tryon is one of the best places to photograph the cliffs of Prince Edward Island. Just north of New London, Cape Tryon features impressive cliff walls more than 30 meters high. Cape Road and Cape Tryon Road provide nice access to the area, and is very close to the New London Lighthouse. There is also a lighthouse at Cape Tryon.
Darnley is about 10 km west of Cape Tryon, along route 20 and by the Darnley Basin. This is yet one more option for photographing the beautiful coast.
Rocky Point is on the southern shore of Prince Edward Island and across the Charlottetown Harbor from Charlottetown. The Blockhouse Point Lighthouse is nearby.
Victoria Park is in Charlottetown, just across the harbor from Rocky Point. The park features a boardwalk, walking trails, flowers, and nice views of the harbor.
The West Point Lighthouse is in western Prince Edward Island, along the southern shore. Here you will find a picturesque lighthouse and beautiful beaches. Access to the area is easy via route 14
North Cape is located at the most northwestern point of Prince Edward Island. At low tide you can walk along the natural rock reef where the Gulf of St. Lawrence and North Umberland Strait meet. The Black Marsh Nature Trail (5 km long) is available here.
Kildare Capes is about 20 km south of North Cape. This is another great location for photographing the coast and cliffs. Route 12 provides easy access to the area.
Panmure Island is a small island in southeastern Prince Edward Island. It is connected to Prince Edward Island by a long causeway. Panmure Island Provincial Park runs along the causeway. This area is popular for its white sand beaches. There are beaches on each side of the causeway. On one side is the Atlantic Ocean, and on the other side is St. Marys Bay.
Argyle Shore Provincial Park is southwest of Charlottetown, along the southern shore of the island. The park does not include many facilities, but it does have a nice beach area. This is a good place to photograph the red sand and cliffs.
The Seacow Head Lighthouse is about 40 km northwest of Argyle Shore Provincial Park, also along the southern shore. This picturesque coast and lighthouse is a great place to stop. It was named for teh walruses that were once common on Prince Edward Island.
Wood Islands is in southeast Prince Edward Island and is named for a few small wooded islands offshore. There is a lighthouse, and photographers will also appreciate the coastal scenery.
